Employee Utilization

Brief.  Advisory First defines employee utilization as the process that:

  1. Identifies the right work that must be performed to support the plant/facility mission, and
  2. Evaluates the workload of key employees to ensure that everyone is being utilized effectively.

You may have heard of Dr. Michael Hammer, PhD, who made millions with his book entitled, “Reengineering the Corporation.”  His vision was to start with a blank sheet of paper and to develop a business plan that would cause the greatest possible improvement to your company’s success.  If you have not read the book, we strongly recommend that you do so.  Our approach to employee utilization is to identify the opportunities that your company has to reach a higher level of success in the areas of plant reliability and maintenance.  We will then help you identify how to restructure your organization in order to implement the required steps.  Steps such as assigning additional responsibilities to your front office staff, developing collateral duties for reliability to your craft and/or operators and cross training can have dramatic and very positive results.  In our experience, effective employee utilization not only improves plant reliability but will also spark the morale of your employees as they begin to feel like they are a more important part of the team.  We will show you how to empower your employees in identifying and implementing key opportunities that will positively impact your bottom line.

Benefits.  Depending upon your situation, it may be possible to trim staff by 10-15% without sacrificing production or quality.  On the other hand, if you are already trimmed to the bone, this process will ensure that you are getting the most out of your employees in the right areas.  Generally, this offering is used in combination with development of RCM and reliability programs to reach the optimum results.
